North Utsire, South Utsire

Showers later, good

North Utsire, South Utsire (N.U.S.U) is a little browser idle game about watching cargo ships go by, inspired by the BBC's Shipping Forecast.

I started it as a little test bed for various things I'd like to master for other projects further down the line, but mostly I'm making it for fun.

I had fond memories of developing the first Zellige: Prototype, and wanted to dive back into making little browser toys.
N.U.S.U procedurally generates a roster of cargo ships with varying origins, destinations, loaded containers, names, shipping companies, and International Maritime Organisation numbers.

These ships then travel semi-randomly (for now) across the seas, with a controllable time scale and a regular day / night cycle. Eventually I would like to add ports where the containers can be unloaded and loaded onto a new ship.

N.U.S.U also features a ship radio, inspired by the Sailor RT144C VHF sea radio, and which plays either classical music (currently the overture to Bizet's Carmen, but eventually a selection of tracks), or a shipping forecast. Currently this forecast is a copyright free recording found online, but I would like to replace it with a procedurally generated, fictional forecast channel, recorded by myself.
